So as most of you know, Modern Warfare 2 was released this past Tuesday, I had my copy reserved and picked it up in the morning of it's release. As soon as I got home I put the game in and began playing the single player campaign.
And wow.
It definitely lived up to it's hype, MW2 was a fantastic game and the campaign was just really adrenaline filled and heart pumping. The areas seem so much more expansive and open, giving you more than just one route to go to your next objective, but at the same time it gives your enemies more space to maneuver and flank you. There aren't much changes to the core gameplay, the only real changes from the last games are the weapons and changes to the multiplayer.
The amount of detail was so boggling when I first played it, I spent a few minutes reading all the default classes the game offered the first time I played online. The Perks are so widely varied now, ranging from simple ones like making your bullets stronger to more advanced ones that scramble any enemy's radar that get close to you. And the amount of detail you can put into customizing your weapons is just jarring. I personally love the Heart Beat Sensor, a small screen that's attached to your weapon that scans the area in front of you, if an enemy is near a red dot appears and begins beeping, the faster it beeps the closer they are. Not only does it help you but it just has that THIS IS LIKE THAT SCENE FROM ALIENS coolness to it.
There are nearly a dozen customization attachments to each gun, allowing endless possibilities on creating your perfect weapon, along with nearly a ton of new equipment to aid you in battle. The Kill Streaks have been greatly changed to. No longer are you now confined to the UAV, Airstrike and Chopper call ins, you can choose which kill streak you want by going in your barracks. Again, the amount of these is just enormous, there are some standard ones that call in chopper support to drop ammunition for you and your team mates and bigger ones like being able to call in an AC130 attack plane and actually controlling the weapons on the ship as it circles around the map a few times. I have the Air Drop, Sentry Gun (can't help but think of Team Fortress 2 when I set one up) and Harrier Strike.
There's also the Special Ops where you and a friend can tackle dozens of missions (whether it be split screen or online) and complete objectives, earning stars along the way that unlock more missions to play. I've played a few of these with one of my friends and I think one of the coolest ones was one mission where I piloted an AC130 and gave support fire to my friend as he ran across a map trying to get to the finish as I took out the enemies going after him.
I'm having lots of fun with the game, too much fun I think, I keep getting side tracked from drawing and other things. But I'm gonna do my best to not play today and get that stuff done. There's always the weekend anyway, there's a Modern Warfare 2 All Nighter Play Date this Saturday, might just go and participate in that depending how many of my friends go on.
So yeah, MW2 is a really great game. I'd say go get it, though it might not be as impacting if you haven't played the original Modern Warfare, but that won't stop you from having a great time playing this game.
